A nature’s Act | Surf Madeira | Ep.03

João Guedes visited Madeira Island for the first time when he was 15 years old. He recently returned with Deeply, to show us around the island he loves so much.

Unlike the mainland, Madeira welcomed us with a warm embrace, tropical landscapes and clear skies. A great opportunity to use our boardshorts.

“Madeira is all by itself, just the view makes you feel good right away.” - Joao Guedes

Having started surfing at a very young age, João Guedes became a true man of the sea. Connection and trust became the key elements in this relationship. Regardless of the activity, being at sea is what really fulfills the surfer.

On this trip, João Guedes met people who, like him, call the sea home.

“Madeira is like I say, another day in paradise” - João Ferreira

First he met with Orlando Pereira. An influential surfer in the local community. They gathered in Contreiras, Portalegre to enjoy the big swell. The waves found here are considered by the surfer as a training ground for those who aspire to surf big waves.

In Funchal we met João Ferreira, owner of a naval club and passionate about sailing. It all started with a sailing trip with his father, the rest is history. The sailor took the surfer to Cabo Girão. It was here that João Guedes could once again connect with his element. This time through diving.

“I couldn't live away from the sea because my whole lifestyle is in the sea.” - Joao Guedes

We believes that surfers have a strong connection with nature and a duty to care for the environment. However, rubbish is often found every time we enter the sea. This reminds us of the urgency of taking responsibility and actively preserving the environment, and keeping the ocean and beaches clean.

It was through surfing and sailing that we were able to observe the imponent island of Madeira. In addition to its overwhelming landscapes, the island also offers several places to visit. On the Island there is always something to do.
